AC induced corrosion

Mechanisms of AC corrosion of C-steel, stainless steels in soils, seawater.
Significant progress was made thanks to polarisation studies within an AC period, with a proper ohmic drop correction on the potential. Electrochemical reactions (corrosion, passivation, oxygen or hydrogen evolution...) do occur even during a 50 or 60 Hz AC period. Studies were conducted on C-steel and stainless steels in soils (with AC current induced from high voltage transmission lines) and is seawater (as for the direct heating system for offshore flowlines).
